Hey, Look, a Distraction!

Posted: March 17, 2020 in Book Promo

So, due to recent events, and the quarantines and social distancing involved, people out there are undoubtedly looking into ways to keep themselves from constant news of the pandemic or the boredom that’d crop up from having to cancel so many plans. I’ve seen several other authors out there offering their books for free to help ease the pain of isolation, and am throwing my own offer into the ring. Books 8 and 9 ARE finished, but the Kindle versions are not (will look into that this weekend). But books 1-7 will be available for free for a few days (1-5 and 7 from the 18th to the 22nd, 6 from the 18th to the 20th)! 10-12 are currently in the works and I hope beyond hope to have them all ready for Halloween.

But if anyone is interested in trying a horror/sci-fi/urban fantasy mix, combining prose and a few graphic novel sections here and there, now’s as good a time as any! Warning: I would NOT recommend these to children, as they tend to be quite violent, have strong language, there’s one sexual assault in book 3…also, the artwork can be just a bit rushed and the prose may not be the greatest (but it’s what felt right for the books).

Okay, so the links SHOULD work. Just click on the cover to get you to the book. The free promo starts at midnight Pacific. If you feel like reading them, I hope you get some enjoyment in this difficult and confusing time!

And please, everyone, stay safe out there…and be extra respectful of the healthcare workers, people in food services and retail, truck drivers…anyone that’s not able to self-isolate, that has to work extra-hard to keep things running.

Beyond The Mask RELEASE DAY!

Posted: January 29, 2019 in Book Promo

The day has finally arrived…RELEASE DAY IS UPON US!

So, before I get into my promo, I’d just like to give a little shout-out to the three authors who did not end up getting pics. I would share blurbs for their stories, but I don’t have two of them, and didn’t feel right in demanding those…but I also wouldn’t feel right about not promoting their work at all, either. Not only that, but I was actually published in Counterclockwise with all 3 of them.

And those 3 are:

Sarah Buhrman, whose urban fantasy series is just plain awesome (book 3 coming soon), and whose work has also been featured in A Twist Of Fate. Seriously, check her stuff out, she’s great.

Her story, “Super Powereds Anonymous”:

Mute is tired of the villain life and joins a support group for lesser super powereds.
When people start dying, will their “lame” powers be enough to solve the case?

Matthew Stevens, who is one talented dude. I look forward to seeing what he’s written for this one!

and Bob James, another whose work I’m eager to read more of.

Alright, now, we get to my tale in this collection. It’s another one set in the Hell Bent universe. Given how common genetic engineering is there, a superhero story only felt right.

So, my blurb:

Travis Malone is a comic shop employee that happens to have superpowers. When a coworker dares him to put those powers to good use as a hero, he ultimately takes him up on it. Armed with his regenerative abilities, a thrift-shop costume, and sheer force of will, he takes up the mantle of “Travesty”. But when he learns about a string of arsons throughout the city, caused by a being known only as Uncle Nero, will he back down? Or will he find himself playing with fire?

Mine was very much based upon issue #107 of Captain America. Since Trav works in a comic shop, a full-on homage to a comic cover felt…right.

Anyway, to grab your copy of this anthology and help in the fight against childhood cancer…

So, the next one here is Devorah Fox’s story “Lady Blackwing Gets Her Moniker”.

Blurb: Mercedes is just trying to make her way through life: taking classes, working her shift as a barista, and when she can squeeze it in, writing short stories. Inoculated with a pencil favored by her literary heroes, she finds herself imbued with startling abilities. She can write the imagined future into existence and rewrite the past, but the consequences are unpredictable. After a late-night writing session, a hate crime erupts in her neighborhood and Mercedes is certain that it’s her doing. But does she have the power to right the wrong?

She works all day at a bank and when gets home, she’s tired and wants evil to take a night off sometimes. While out on a blind date with Eric Green, she is outed as a superhuman…

Hey, there, and welcome to day 2 of the build-up to the superhero anthology “Beyond The Mask”!

Today, we’re going into R.M. Demeester’s “Humming”. The premise for this one’s intriguing, I feel, and I definitely look forward to reading it.

Humming blurb: Thomas’ world was about to change. Leaving work one evening, he was ambushed and robbed in an alley by two shadowy figures, only to be rescued by a mysterious, glowing woman. He soon discovers the etherial figure is the key to turning his misfortunes into powerful miracles.

Hey there, people…guess who’s still around and creating (though not posting as much as she should)! I’ll get more into the stuff I’ve been working on a bit later, but there’s one main focus for this next week…

Next Tuesday marks the release of a brand new anthology of superhero stories, comprised of 10 tales! I wasn’t able to do these promo images for everyone, but I have managed to draw enough of them for a week.

All proceeds from this anthology will go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand, to help in the fight against childhood cancer.

49399972_2041678132583375_1519028786115379200_o

Each day leading up to the release, I’ll introduce a bit about the authors involved and their stories, starting with the head of Fiction-Atlas Press herself: C.L. Cannon, and her story “Turncoat”.

Turncoat Synopsis: No one’s seen Max Gressier in over a decade. Most assume he’s dead. But when the government sets up an elite task force designed to make superheroes obsolete, everyone is surprised to find Max is very much alive, well, and fighting for the other side. What does this ex-superhero have up his sleeve, and why would he align himself with old enemies?
